Location Details

SCeA is located on the coast of Maine north of Portland and will be taking place in July. The weather is forecast to be sunny the majority of the time with the occasional light rain shower. The stable is set upon a large valley, and is surrounded by hills covered in forest. A 15 minute ride from the stable yards will bring you to the beach head, and the rocky coast.  Here are the specific areas the classes will be held in:

Forest Clearing: Located north-east of the stable, this location is a large open space in the middle of the forest. The ground is covered in grass a couple inches tall, and on one side of the clearing you can see some of the beach and ocean through the trees. The area where competitors will be performing is enclosed by a knee high white vinyl fence.

Beach: The beach is your average sandy wonderland with only a few differences. The west side of the beach is covered in sparse, tall beach grass while the far north and south ends run into large rocky outcroppings. The area where competitors will be performing is all sand and enclosed by a knee-high white vinyl fence about 30 feet back from the waterline.

The Coast: The full length of the coast is a combination of beach, rocky outcroppings, and beach grass areas. Natural trails run along it where animals frequent, and will be the paths competitors will be following for some classes.

The Greenbelt: The greenbelt is situated directly east of the stable yards and is a large open grassy space. The area is quite large, and on the edges it runs into the forested regions and then the hills. The halter/ liberty competition area will be enclosed by a normal sized white vinyl fence. The fence will be taken down for War Games, tag, etc.

The Lighthouse: An old lighthouse sits on an outcropping on the north-east end of the coastline. It will be the endpoint for some classes, and is slightly visible from the beach.

The Classes

Each class has a specific setting and details, so please read them carefully! Read the "location details" above for more info on each setting.

English Classes

Dressage

A traditional dressage class. Will take place in the forest clearing.  All levels of moves can be used, and white dressage letter markers will be added against the fence.

Show Jumping

A traditional jumping class. Will be held in the forest clearing. The jumps will be nautical themed (think ship rope, buoys, anchors, waves, etc). The sides of the jumps will have the decoration, while the rails will be traditional style with the SCeA stable colors on them (powder blue, black, white).

Cross Country

The course will take place along the coastline. It will begin in the greenbelt and will then track through the woods, down to the beach, then up along the rocky part of the coast before ending at the lighthouse. Jumps will be nautical themed (think ship rope, buoys, anchors, waves, etc) with breakaway features in case of falls.

Hunt Seat

A traditional hunt seat class. Will take place in the forest clearing. Horses will be asked to walk, trot, and canter.

Western Classes

Barrel Racing

Will take place on the beach. The barrels are the stable colors (black on top, white in the middle, powder blue on bottom).

Reining

Will take place on the beach. Horses will be asked to perform a full pattern including lead changes, gait changes, spins, and sliding stops.

Trail

Will take place on the beach. Horses will be asked to navigate a full course that includes such obstacles as ground poles, cones, the box, a gate, and a tarp. Most obstacles will be the stable colors (powder blue, white, or black).

Western Pleasure

A traditional pleasure class. Will take place on the beach. Horses will be asked to walk, jog, and lope.

In-Hand Classes

Halter

This will take place on the greenbelt. Horses must be wearing a halter, and at least half the handler must be showing (if all you can see is the handler's legs behind the horse, that's perfectly fine). Handlers will be asked to make there horses walk, trot, and stand square. All horse ages accepted for this class.

Liberty

This will take place on the greenbelt. Horses are set loose in the arena to show off their natural movement. Horses do not have to wear a halter, though if they are hard to catch, feel free to leave it on. Handlers are not required to be shown. All horse ages accepted for this class.

Free Jump

This will take place on the greenbelt. Horses are set loose to jump a set of three fences and show off their natural collection and poise. Jumps will be nautical themed (think ship rope, buoys, anchors, waves, etc), and the jumps will be bordered by two fences so the horse cannot stray from the course.

Special Powers/ Abilities/ Potions Liberty

Have a horse with special powers, abilities, or potions? This is the class for them! Horses will be set loose in the arena to show off their powers/abilities/ or potions to their best effect. The horse who gives the most dazzling performance wins. Will take place on the greenbelt. All horse ages accepted for this class.

War Games

Mounted Archery

Will take place on the greenbelt. Horse and rider will have to shoot a series of round targets. Targets will be the stable colors (powder blue, black, white). The team with the highest point total wins.

Mounted Combat
Will take place on the greenbelt. Participants will be asked to navigate a course of obstacles while trying to take out ten scarecrow targets. Obstacles include ground poles, some low log jumps, and straw bales. Riders may use any kind of traditional weapons they choose (short swords, war axes, spears, etc.) Bows, however, are not permitted.  Horse and rider with the fastest course completion time wins.

Trail Classes

Fox Hunt

Will take place across all the locations. Riders will be asked to hunt "The Fox". The fox will be our horse War Maiden ridden by the stable manager Elysa Arlyn. [Link] Elysa will have a faux fox tail clipped to the back of the saddle. First participant to pull the fox tail off the saddle wins. Feel free to bring your hunting dogs with you, or have your stable staff work in teams!

Endurance Ride

This is a half day endurance ride that will begin around 8am and end around 2pm. The trail will take you through the hills and coast surrounding the stable. It will begin at the greenbelt, then make its way through the neighboring hills, then back along the rocky coast to the beach. The trail will end at the light house. Many of the trails can be tight and rocky, so be prepared!

Fun Classes

Mounted Tag

Will take place on the greenbelt. All ages may participate. Last person to get tagged wins.

Swap Disciplines

The goal of this random event is to take riders who excel at one discipline, then have them participate in one they are unfamiliar with. So for instance say you have a rider who only performs in dressage. You will then put them on a horse who is experienced in show jumping, and have them compete in a show jumping class! Riders may not train for this event ahead of time. All entered disciplines will be basic level as to keep everything safe for horse and rider. You may choose any event for them to participate in. Because of the unfamiliarity, we expect to see some hilarious displays! Rider with the final highest score wins.

Bareback Coast Race

This will take place on the beach. All ages are welcome to participate. Horses may not be wearing saddles or blankets, but they may still wear their bridles! First horse to cross the finish line at the lighthouse wins.

Extra Images

Wanting to do some extra images of your staff and horses at the show? We invite you to do so! Each extra image you do will earn you one ticket in a raffle. At the end of the show, one winner will be randomly selected to win a prize! (Prize is being decided, but most likely points and art) You may do as many extra images as you wish. Note: extra images do not effect your show score in any way.

Prizes

[ Prizes Listed Here ]

Show Sponsors

We are looking for some people to sponsor the show! In order to be listed as a sponsor, you must either donate a prize, or judge a class (or both if you want!). If you are interested, please drop a comment or send me a note.

Note: I will only accept one horse breed prize per class. I'd prefer to have more art and point prizes.

EDIT: We now have enough judges! Thanks to those who volunteered! c:

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to message me anytime! c:
